The Day Of Your Surgery

To help us meet all of your needs, please follow these guidelines:

  • Please arrive at the time given to you by the Global Surgery Center,(approximately one hour before your scheduled procedure). Your family/escort will be asked to wait in the waiting room. The surgeon will speak with your family following surgery.
  • Bathe or shower prior to your surgery. Do not use lotions or oils after bathing. Wear little or no make-up.

  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing such as sweat suits and easy-to-button shirts or blouses that are big enough to accommodate a large bandage after surgery if necessary. Wear comfortable slip-on shoes; no high heels, please. If prescribed, bring crutches.

  • If you wear contact lenses or glasses, bring a case for their safekeeping. We provide containers for removable dentures and bridgework.

  • You must have someone available to drive you home after the procedure because you will receive medication /anesthesia that will make you drowsy. Failure to have someone available to drive you home will result in cancellation of your procedure. We recommend that someone remain with you for the first 24 hours after your procedure. Even if you take a taxi, you must have a responsible person to accompany you home.

  • Leave all valuables, including jewelry and cash, at home. We cannot be responsible for damaged or lost property.

  • You will be asked to remove any piercings and/or any jewelry, if you are unable or refuse this may result in cancellation of your procedure.

  • Bring all of your regular medications with you on the day of surgery, both prescription and non-prescription, if you are bringing it in list form- be sure to include name, dose and frequency. If you use an inhaler, please bring it with you.

  • Be prepared to sign forms giving your consent for the surgery and anesthesia. If the patient is a minor or is under guardianship, a legal guardian must accompany the patient and sign the consent form and remain in the Global Surgery Center for the entire procedure.

  • A nurse will provide you with a gown, robe, slippers and a locker for use during your stay. We will also check your temperature, blood pressure and pulse. Female patients will be asked to provide a urine sample.

  • An anesthesiologist will speak with you prior to your procedure, you will be asked about your general health, medical problems and medications you are taking.

  • You will have an IV line started. Any medications ordered will be given at this time.
